About the position

The Salmon Region is seeking two (2), temporary Fisheries Research Data Technicians (non-benefited) to conduct angler creel surveys during the spring 2022 steelhead fishery from Corn Creek to Stanley, Idaho.

Dates Needed:

February 25, 2022 through April 30, 2022; actual starting date will depend on river and weather conditions. Employment would start by March 1, 2022 at the latest.

General Information: 
Incumbents will average between 32- 40 hours per week. Work hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, with Mondays and Tuesdays off. The shift requires incumbents to work both weekend days.

Incumbents must be able to stand for long periods of time, hike over rough and rugged terrain, safely drive on variable road conditions for multiple hours per shift, and work in adverse weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodations. If working out of Stanley, ID, housing can be provided using either a camp trailer or dorm facilities.
Responsibilities: 
Conduct angler interviews to collect angler effort and steelhead harvest data using electronic data recorders. Additionally, collect biological samples from harvested steelhead and assist with data entry.
Qualifications: 
Applicants must be able to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner, work independently, drive for long periods of time under variable road conditions, and follow set protocols while accurately collecting data. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Good handwriting is a plus. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Fisheries related experience and education is helpful but not required. Must possess a valid driver's license.
