About the position

Idaho Department of Fish and Game (Clearwater Region) is seeking 2 temporary Fisheries Biological Aides (non-benefited) to work as part of its resident fisheries management crew.

General Information: 
Work in beautiful north-central Idaho on a fisheries management crew! Conduct resident fish surveys on regional lakes and rivers to assist with the management of these fisheries for recreational fishing opportunities and the long-term conservation of Idaho’s natural resources. Crew generally works Monday-Friday, but schedule is variable with the potential for up to 8 day field trips (overnight with both car camping and wilderness camping possible). Some weekend and/or holiday work may be required. Start and end dates have some limited flexibility.
Duties are highly varied, and generally include sampling fisheries using boat Electrofishing and nets, conducting snorkel surveys, high mountain lake surveys, limnology and zooplankton sampling, vegetation and habitat surveys, tagging fish for angler exploitation surveys, assisting with children's fishing events, and operation and basic maintenance of department trucks, boats, and other sampling equipment.

Minimum one year of college in fisheries, biology, or related studies, or equivalent in training and experience preferred. A valid driver’s license is required.

With or without reasonable accommodations, applicants must be able to work in extreme weather, handle live and dead fish, hike long distances in extremely rough terrain while carrying a 40-50 lb. pack, stand/work in cold water for up to 10 hours per day, work underwater using snorkeling equipment, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs for short distances.
