About the position

Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game (Clearwater Region) is seeking a temporary Fisheries Technician (benefited) to work as the crew leader of its resident fisheries management crew.
 

General Information: 
Work in beautiful north-central Idaho leading a fisheries management crew! Conduct resident fish surveys on regional lakes and rivers to assist with the management of these fisheries for recreational fishing opportunities and the long-term conservation of Idaho’s natural resources. Crew schedule will be variable with some weekend and/or holiday work required, with the potential for up to 8 day field trips (overnight with both car camping and wilderness camping possible).
Responsibilities: 
Serve as crew leader of 4-5 person fisheries field crew. Crew leader is responsible for assisting with planning and coordinating field work, leading the field crew while both supervised and unsupervised, ensuring all data is collected properly, conducting data entry and laboratory analysis, maintaining field equipment, and will assist with writing the annual report.

Work will be varied, and will include boat electrofishing surveys, snorkel surveys, high mountain lake surveys, conducting Chinook redd surveys, assisting with children's fishing events, and other duties/projects as assigned. Duties will also include operation and basic maintenance of department trucks and boats, and the use of a variety of sampling equipment.
Qualifications: 
B.S. degree in fisheries, biology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience.

A valid driver’s license is required.

With or without reasonable accommodations, applicants must be able to work in extreme weather, handle live and dead fish, hike long distances in extremely rough terrain while carrying a 40-50 lb. pack, stand/work in cold water for up to 10 hours per day, work underwater using snorkeling equipment, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs for short distances.
