About the position

The Magic Valley Regional Wildlife Habitat Program is seeking 6 wildlife habitat technicians to perform wildlife habitat-related work on wildlife management areas and other properties managed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

The positions will be stationed at Big Cottonwood Wildlife Management Area (2) near Oakley, ID, Niagara Springs Wildlife Management Area (1) near Wendell, ID, South Central Wildlife Tracts (1) near Hagerman, ID, and the Centennial Marsh Wildlife Management Area (2) near Fairfield, ID. On-site housing is provided throughout the duration of this position. Employee is required to live on the wildlife management area (WMA) unless nearby housing is acquired. 

Responsibilities: 
Perform wildlife and habitat management duties on WMA. Operate various equipment including, but not limited to: 4x4 truck, ATV, tractor w/ implements, chainsaw, power tools, and sprayers. Operate and maintain irrigation systems to food plots and pastures using gated pipe, and open ditch systems. Conduct weed control and monitor use of chemical herbicides. Build, repair, remove fences, maintain equipment, facilities, housing and grounds. Monitor wildlife population numbers, habitat use, and public use of WMA. Assist manager with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 
With or without assistance be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Be able to work outdoors in highly variable weather conditions. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to competently and safely operate a chainsaw, power trimmer, 4x4 truck, ATV, and tractor with implements (disk, mower, etc.). Incumbent must have a working knowledge of wildlife ecology and basic habitat requirements. Experience with herbicide applications, farm equipment, and ditch irrigation is preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively with the public. The abilities to work independently with minimal supervision and make efficient use of field time are essential requirements for this position.
