About the position

Sampling juvenile anadromous salmonid emigrants is an integral part of overall status and trend monitoring of threatened populations of salmon and steelhead. The individual chosen for this position will be one of two technicians who will work in rotating multi-day shifts to operate a rotary screw trap located on the South Fork of the Salmon River. This position is non-benefited, with a 5-month term of employment.

General Information: 
Employee will maintain a juvenile fish trap on the South Fork of the Salmon River. Per diem and housing is provided while on duty. Duty schedule is typically up to 5 days a week, 2 off, but will vary. Weekend and holiday work is necessary. Shared camper accommodations will be available when off duty or working locally.
Responsibilities: 
Primary responsibilities include handling, identifying, and PIT tagging juvenile salmonids, and managing associated databases. Maintaining the trap and all associated equipment. Other duties include assisting with related fisheries research and management activities conducted from the McCall office. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 
Minimum Qualifications: B.S. degree in fisheries, biology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience. Individuals with experience in the above listed activities, and experience working independently will be given preference. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
