About the position

The Salmon Region is seeking one Fisheries Technician (5 month benefited) to assist with the regional fisheries Habitat program in Salmon, Idaho and the surrounding area. This position will involve maintaining and monitoring habitat restoration projects, assistance in construction of restoration projects, and data management and analysis. Start and end date are flexible.

General Information: 
Applicants must (with or without reasonable accommodations) work in inclement weather for long periods of time, lift up to 60 pounds, and be able to hike long distances along stream bank and trails. Must accommodate a flexible schedule (holidays, weekends, and nights) as necessary. Housing is not provided.
The fisheries technicians primary responsibilities include: assisting the fisheries habitat biologist with many aspects related to developing and implementing habitat restoration projects, and monitoring their effectiveness. The purpose of these projects are to address factors that are limiting the abundance, distribution, and survival of ESA listed anadromous and freshwater resident salmonids in the basin. Specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to, maintaining habitat restoration projects on the Pahsimeroi River, which includes running irrigation pod systems, weed managements, redd surveys, and water quality monitoring. Project documentation of construction activities using video and still cameras, assisting in developing informational and outreach videos, assisting in revegetating disturbed areas (seeding, willow planting, watering), and maintaining field equipment are also a major component of this position. The successful applicant will also be involved in fisheries projects including backpack electrofishing, PIT –tagging salmonids, redd count surveys, operating rotary screw traps and weirs, data management (recording, organizing, and error checking in multiple databases), and various types of data analysis.
It is preferred that applicants have a BS degree in fisheries (or related field), or equivalent in job experience and training. Applicants must be detail oriented and have the ability to work alone with minimal supervision, as well as in close proximity with others. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
