The controlled bear hunts in Units 22, 32, 31 and 32A are highly valued by hunters, with draw odds of 5% to 8% on spring hunts and 10% to 14% on fall hunts. This is largely because good bear habitat combined with special management has resulted in high bear numbers and good numbers of mature bears in these units. However, one unintended consequence of these high bear numbers is a high rate of bear conflicts on private lands, particularly in Units 22 and 32.
Diverse and sometimes conflicting goals in these units create unique management challenges. Because of this, we have developed options for each hunt, each of which meets some goals better than others. Please review the goals for each unit, and rank the options in order of your preference.
