Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette Match at BCR

Event Date:
Saturday, March 25, 2017 - 9:00 AM MDT

Shooters must use an 1896 or prior, American design, single-shot rifle with an exposed hammer. Examples include hiwalls, rolling blocks and the classic 1874 Sharps carbine. Both originals and reproductions are allowed. Only black powder or pyrodex may be used and gas checks are prohibited. Allowed calibers include .38-55, .40-65, .45-70 and .45-90.

These matches are typically a team sport, with a spotter advising the shooter of hits and misses. The shooter has seven minutes to sight in and shoot at the first bank of five targets, and five minutes to shoot the second bank of five targets. Each participant shoots a 40-round match at these distances: 200 meters-chickens, 300 meters-pigs, 385 meters-turkeys, 500 yards-rams.

Black powder cartridge rifle matches are held regularly on the fourth Saturday and Sunday of each month (except August and September) beginning at 9:00am. Check the monthly calendar to confirm date and time. For more information, contact Frank Cornell at 208-362-0478 or

New shooters are always welcome at this event. Cost to participate is minimal ($15 for adults, $5 for youth). Spectators are also welcome at no cost.
