Directions: TOLO LAKE: from Grangeville, US 95 S; W onto Tolo Lake Rd; go ~5 mi to John Creek Rd; L (S) for 0.25 mi; lake on L. MT IDAHO AREA: In Grangeville, E on Main St (ID 13); R (S) onto Mt Idaho Rd; in ~1 mi, go straight at curve on FR 221 for 7.5 mi to Fish Creek Meadows.
Description: TOLO LAKE: This lake is the largest natural water body on the Camas Prairie. In peak waterfowl passage up to 10 species can be seen. Less common species recorded here include Trumpeter Swan, Snow and Ross’s Geese, Greater Scaup, Bonaparte’s Gull, Common Tern, and Wilson’s Phalarope. Long-billed Curlew can be found in the grassland between Grangeville and the lake. Raptors can be found in the grasslands all year, especially Red-tailed Hawk and Northern Harrier; Rough-legged Hawk present in winter. Short-eared Owl occasionally seen in the area. Songbirds include Horned Lark, Western Meadowlark, Brewer’s Blackbird, and Savannah Sparrow. MT IDAHO AREA: This area is good for typical forest birds including Ruffed Grouse and Williamson’s Sapsucker.
