Teachers doing the Habitat Lap Sit Activity

CAPTION: Teachers doing the Habitat Lap Sit Activity

IDAHO FALLS - This spring, teachers and those who work with kids will have a chance to get WILD in the Upper Snake Region. On April 21 and April 22, 2017, the Upper Snake Region of Idaho Department of Fish & Game will hold an introductory “Project WILD Workshop.” The introductory workshop is the foundation for all other “Project WILD Workshops.”

The workshop will be led by Regional Conservation Educator, Gregg Losinski, and assisted by Bari Bucholz, a teacher with the Teton Science School. Gregg and Bari have been team teaching Project WILD for over 15 years. The workshop will be held at the Upper Snake Regional office from 4 PM to 10 PM on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 from 8 AM until 3:00 PM. The course can be taken for university credit, so a minimum amount of classroom contact time is required. Cost is $40 for materials, plus college credit costs.

Project WILD was created in the early 1980’s by the Council for Environmental Education, the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA), and multiple state education departments. Idaho Department of Fish and Game was also among the creators, therefore many of the activities strike a chord with Idaho teachers and students.

Teachers have a chance to take part in Project WILD flagship activities like “Oh Deer!”, “Hooks & Ladders”, and “How Many Bears?” Teachers will be exposed to a vast amount of information about wildlife and wildlife management. Along with traditional activities like dissecting owl pellets, participants have a chance to lead their own unit as part of the workshop.

While the workshops are designed for teachers, anyone who works with children should find the workshop valuable. Daycare providers, scout leaders, and youth group leaders may take the course for the price of materials which is $40. It is important for everyone to register in advance!
